The trailer, recorded on the streets of downtown Lawrence, Kansas.

This one starts at your address.

Type in an address, or let your iPhone find where you are. Zip Code Z downloads the OpenStreetMap data around it and builds a 480-meter square of your town: real streets with their names painted on the asphalt, shops and fire stations under their real names, parks, rivers, fences and trees. Every building has rooms, doors, windows and furniture.

You wake up inside your own house. Walk or drive past the edge of the map and the next district loads as you get near, with its own dead, survivors and supplies.

The loading screen: a cyan hologram of downtown Lawrence, Kansas, built from 94 streets, 184 buildings and 90 places.

Day 1 at 806 Massachusetts Street: the player stands in their kitchen, told to search the house for supplies.
Day 1, 10:03. You wake up at home.

Scavenge. Craft. Trade. Fortify.

A crowd of the dead burning on East 9th Street after a Molotov.

But the dead know where you live.

Every night at eight, a horde moves in, and it grows every day. The dead hunt by sight and sound. A gunshot carries for blocks, and they'll beat through a door to reach you.

Every special move has a tell. Land a heavy blow during it and you cancel the move.

  1. Night 1

Runners sprint, crouch and pounce. Step aside once one commits.

  2. Day 2

Bloaters spew bile up close, then burst when they die.

  3. Day 3

Screamers call every zombie for blocks. Kill one before it screams.

  4. Day 4

Riot zombies wear helmets and armor that shrug off light weapons.

  5. Day 5

Spitters keep their distance and lob acid.

  6. Day 6

Brutes smash boarded doors and slam the ground hard enough to throw you.

Play together.

Two phones can share one game, on the same Wi-Fi or online from anywhere. The host shows a QR code, and the other phone scans it to join in the same streets, with the same dead. If you go down, your partner has 45 seconds to get you back on your feet.

The box art: Zip Code Z over a full moon, a horde filling a suburban street at night, and the words They know where you live.

How long will you last?

Death is permanent. When you die, your save goes with you.
